What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

The contact forms on the website are provided by the Contactform 7 plugin https://contactform7.com – the plugin does not save any data on their servers.

All data you enter in a contact form are saved on the server running this website. The hosting is provided by https://www.one.com/

When you enter data into a contact form saying that you will be signed up for our newsletter the data is being sent to Mailchimp which is the system we use them to manage the newsletter. Their privacy policy can be found here: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/

The data requested in the contact form on the site are first name and e-mail address. If you don’t want to provide your real first name you can enter a simple dot or letter in that field. The first name is only used to personalize the newsletter.

The data from contact forms can be accessed by the administrator of this website. Your data will never be shared with any third-party entities. You can request your data to be removed from this server or from Mailchimp (via their unsubscribe function) at any time.

How long we retain your data

All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
